Hello Dmitri

Since this is my first post, I'd like to start by saying thanks for being so active in these forums and responding quickly to your subscribers' needs. I understand that often people ask for the impossible, repeatedly (like "make this work with the newest GrandMA2 onPC release even though MA Lighting won't allow it!!") and I appreciate the patience.

Hopefully this isn't one of those questions. :)

Currently I'm having to work with Autodesk Revit; the megaclub we're trying to redesign has all of their 3D files built in that system, and they're quite accurate and detailed. I'm trying to create a usable workflow from Revit to LC, but not having good results:
Exporting a DXF from Revit, then into LC, results in some very odd artifacts (namely, every surface edge becomes a triangular surface whose apex is the camera position used in Revit. Looks like a nightmare.) Also, it's one big nightmare of a single solid/single editable texture, so even if I lose the artifacts it's still not going to work for me.

Exporting a DXF from Revit, then opening in VWx, then using the LC export tool from VWx gives me proper geometry, but removes all of the original textures/colors. Not a huge problem, as I can texture just fine in LC, but I have to be very, very picky about exporting selections or else I end up locked into one texture choice for potentially dissimilar items. An example of this is the nightclub's banquettes - the frames and woodwork are mahogany, while the cushions are leather. But each banquette unit is an individual 3D Symbol in VWx, meaning I have to manually break apart all those symbols, then select all the 3D surfaces which comprise the cushions, export that selection to LC, then texture it and hope I didn't mess up the selection set. Repeat for every element of a enormous 3-story nightclub. Unless I've missed an easier way to do it, this isn't practical at all.

Exporting DXF or FBX from Revit and opening in Cinema4D, then exporting .X from there... seems to work ok, but since I have to reboot between MacOS and Windows in order to use both LC and C4D, I haven't really explored this option too much.

Exporting from Revit into 3DS Max looks really great so far, but I only have the latest release (2015). I was going to experiment with getting a trial version of an earlier release, but I was wondering if you were working on a plugin for the 2015 release, and if so when it might be coming out. I'd like to keep my workflow as modern as possible, but if I have to step backwards for now I'll certainly do that just to get this job done.

If there is another better/more streamlined/more accurate way to go from Revit to LC, I would be grateful to learn.

Best regards

Hi.
As you are new, please read here..

Is your loooooooong post is a simple request about plugin for Max 2015?
I will try to ask our experts about that, but please correct your request or make a new one, because you did so much offtopic here. Hope you understand.

Thank you!
